WENHAM, Mass. - The University of Hartford men's soccer team is headed to the Conference of New England (CNE) playoffs this weekend after clinching a berth with the 0-0 tie at Gordon College on Tuesday. The Hawks seed is yet to be determined based off of tie breakers.
Rapid Recap:
- Junior Ryan Lunn (Southington, Conn.) made an opening save in the 15th minute to keep the Scots from taking an early lead. Junior Nick Castrovinci (Roxbury, N.J.) set up the first corner for the Hawks in the 21st minute leading to a junior Alex Foligno (Middletown, Conn.) shot that went above the bar. Gordon had another huge chance in the 29th minute with another stop for Lunn. Lunn made one final stop in the 40th minute as the teams headed into halftime without a score.
- Sophomore Austin Murawski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) kicked off the second half hitting a shot well high from the target. The Scots countered getting an opportunity saved by Lunn in the 51st minute. Murawski had the best chance for the Hawks in the 65th minute with Carson Flake making the save. Senior Kellijah Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica) had one final chance in the 78th minute, but pushed it wide to keep the draw at 0-0.
Inside the Numbers:
- Lunn made five stops for the Hawks ending the regular season with a record of 8-3-3 with six shutouts.
- The Hawks were out shot by a 15-5 margin and a 5-1 on target differential.
Playoff Scenarios:
- Hawks will earn the #3 seed if Western New England loses to Nichols College on Wednesday.
- Hawks will earn the #4 seed if Western New England wins against Nichols College on Wednesday.
- Hawks will be the #5 seed if Western New England ties to Nichols College on Wednesday.
