Hawks Secure Number One Seed in the CNE Tournament with Win Over Gordon College

WENHAM, Mass. - The Hartford women's soccer team is the Conference of New England (CNE) Regular Season Champions after defeating Gordon College by a 3-0 final on Tuesday night. With the win the Hawks now claim the number one seed in the CNE tournament and a first round bye. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks offense continued to roll in the early going as sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) picked up the first goal of the day in the 12th minute on a pass from graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.).The offense continued to roll getting a corner kick in the 17th minute, which produced another goal as sophomore Reese Sadler (Newington, Conn.) tapped in the shot from Stone. The Scots got their first shot of the day in the 22nd minute as Ava Forbes-Smith put a shot on stopped by junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.). The Hawks had one final chance in the 41st minute, but graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) missed high as the lead stayed 2-0 headed into the break. 
  • Emily Bengtson made three early saves for the Scots to keep the game 2-0 in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, but Gordon could not find offense or a rhythm with possession. The Scots had one more shot getting blocked in the 56th minute with a lone corner in the half taking place in the 80th minute. In the 86th minute Jenkins finished the insurance goal from Stone to give the Hawks the 3-0 win.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Sadler picked up her third goal of the season in the win. Brush tallied her 11th goal of the season and Jenkins continues to lead the conference netting her 22nd goal. 
  • Stone picked up two assists to finish with 19 on the year matching the program-record for assists in a single season she set last year with 19 in 2023. 
  • Johnson made two saves for the Hawks to pick up her 11th win of the year in net. She also secured her 6th shutout of the season. 
Up Next:
Hartford will enjoy a first round bye before taking on the winner of the #4 and #5 matchup next Tuesday with a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
