Playoff Preview: #4 Hawks Men's Soccer Host #5 Roger Williams University in First CNE Playoff Game of 2024

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford men's soccer team hosts the Conference of New England (CNE) tournament for the first time on Saturday when they take on Roger Williams University at 1:00 PM.

Game Headlines:
Hartford will host its first conference playoff game since 2019. This in the first season the Hawks have been able to compete in the CNE Tournament. Roger Williams comes back to Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium after falling by a 2-0 final back on September 28th. 
 
Hartford Headlines:
  • The Hawks ended the regular season with double-digit wins in the first year that head coach Mike Kulas was elevated off the interim head coach role. Hartford has defended the home field well in 2024 coming into the playoffs with a 6-1-1 overall record in West Hartford. 
  • Offensively the team is led by senior Kellijah Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica) who finished the year with nine goals, eight assists and four game-winning strikes. Sophomore Austin Murawski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) has also come on strong as of late scoring six goals to go with five assists for Hartford as well as being a two-time CNE Offensive Player of the Week. Junior Nick Castrovinci (Roxbury, N.J.) and senior Devan Jessop (Ashaway, R.I.) are also ones to watch headed into the game combining for seven goals and six assists between the two. 
  • Defensively the Hawks are led by junior Jack Merrill (Newton, N.J.) who has been a staple all year long playing 1402 minutes in the regular season with a lone assist. The back-line also stars three freshman in Brayden Tahiliani (Whitby, Ontario), Adam Eley (Newington, Conn.), and David Czubat (Rocky Hill, Conn.) who have each made key contributions. 
  • In net junior Ryan Lunn (Southington, Conn.) has been great this season making 64 saves with six shutouts for Hartford in 14 starts. 
  • The Hawks ended the year with 1.75 goals per game while allowing just 1.13 per contest. 
Roger Williams Headlines:
  • Roger Williams travels to Connecticut for the second time with a 9-7-3 overall record and a 4-3-2 record on the road. The Hawks are led by head coach James Greenslit in his 10th season at the helm. 
  • On the offensive end RWU is led by Tyler Jastrab who registered six goals and six assists on the year. Liam Blaisdell also had a solid year with five goals and three assists, while John Fogarty rounded out the top scorers with four goals and three assists. 
  • In net will be Hogan Cain who has made 49 saves this year for the Hawks with four shutouts. 
  • As a team Roger Williams scored 1.79 goals per game while allowing just 1.16 goals per contest. 
All-Time Against Roger Williams University:
  • Hartford owns a 1-0-1 record against Roger Williams University tying back in 2023, before winning 2-0 on September 28th of this season. Back in September Morgan tallied both goals on assists from Castrovinci, while Lunn made seven huge saves to hold on for the win.
