Hawks Fall on the Road to Williams College

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The University of Hartford women's basketball team fell to 0-2 on the young season Wednesday night, falling to Williams College by a 59-32 final. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks got the first bucket of the contest as sophomore Kendall Rieman (Chicago, Ill.) scored on an assist by sophomore Ava Naszimento (Secaucus, N.J.). The Ephs would score the next seven points of the game stopped by a jumper by freshman Mikaela Williams (Windsor, Conn.). Freshman Maddie MacCannell (Portsmouth, N.H.) and sophomore Lauren Sabia (Simsbury, Conn.) both got buckets as the Hawks trailed Williams by a 12-8 score.
  • The Ephs got the first two buckets in the second quarter stopped by three-straight points by Naszimento cut the deficit to 17-11. Williams countered back with a 8-1 spurt. Sabia stopped the momentum with a bucket of her own followed by another finish for MacCannell. Sabia got a tough layup to go with 36 seconds on the clock to cut the Ephs lead to 26-18 headed into the break. 
  • After the Ephs scored the first two buckets of the second half, freshman Mackenzie Hohulin (Plymouth, Mass.) started a 6-0 Hawk run to trim the deficit to 30-24 midway through the third quarter. Williams battled back pushing the lead to 17 points headed into the fourth quarter. 
  • Williams and sophomore Taryn Blevins (St. Louis, Mo.) kicked off the fourth quarter with buckets as the Hawks trailed by a 47-29 margin. The Ephs maintained the lead by a healthy margin the rest of the way as Hartford would only score three free throws the rest of the way to lose by a 59-32 final. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Sabia led the scoring effort with eight points (4-7 FG, 0-3 3PT, 0-1 FT) to go with two assists and a pair of rebounds. MacCannell had a good game with six points (2-4 FG, 2-4 FT), four rebounds and two steals. Williams added six points (2-7 FG, 2-6 FT) and two rebounds. 
  •  Kate Keenan led the Ephs with nine points (4-5 FG, 1-1 3PT, 0-1 FT), while Ellie Tounkara added seven points (2-5 FG, 1-1 3PT, 2-2 FT) two assists and two rebounds. 
  • Williams played really well defensively forcing 22 Hartford turnovers, while score 19 points off them. The Hawks forced 18 turnovers with only nine points coming off them.

The Hawks will host Clark University in their home opener on Friday with a 6:00 PM tip.
