MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The University of Hartford baseball team scored one in dropping a pair of games to the United States Coast Guard Academy Sunday at the Ripken Experience's Polo Grounds.
GAME 1: USCGA 3, HARTFORD 1
The Bears scored three runs in the sixth innings to secure the seven-inning victory in the first game of the twinbill. Freshman James Hinspeter managed to score Hartford's lone run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· After two scoreless innings, Hartford found an opportunity in the top of the third when sophomore Jackson Ciccone's single turned into an RBI, allowing Hinspeter to cross the plate for Hartford's only run.
· Senior Joe Dooley (0-1) was saddled with the loss after pitching impressively for 5.1 innings, holding the Bears scoreless until the sixth inning. However, in the sixth, the Bears managed to score three runs, which turned out to be their only runs of the game.
· Michael Featherstone retired the only two batters he faced.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Five different Hawks secured hits in the game, each contributing a single.
- The Hawks had no extra-base hits.
- Hinspeter had Hartford's lone stolen base.
GAME 2: USCGA 16, HARTFORD 0
The Hawks struggled to generate offense in the second game of the doubleheader, falling to USCGA 16-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The Bears came out strong, scoring three runs in the first inning. They maintained their offensive momentum throughout, with only one scoreless inning - the 6th - and their highest-scoring inning being the seventh with five runs.
· Hartford rotated three pitchers throughout the game. Colin Blake (0-1) started and pitched two innings, facing 15 batters, allowing seven hits, eight runs, and recording three strikeouts.
· Freshman Alyis Godbee pitched one inning, facing eight batters, allowing three hits and three runs, while tallying three strikeouts.
· Joe Ferrucci pitched, allowing six hits and six runs while facing 12 batters and managing one strikeout.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Hartford managed six hits, by five different players, led by sophomore Cameron Boardman. The second baseman has two hits, including one of the two Hartford doubles.
- Freshman Peyton West had the other double.
