TUCSON, ARIZ. – The University of Hartford softball team split a pair of games by nearly identical scores on the second day of their Spring Break trip to the Tucson Invitational Games.
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 5, FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 2
Junior
Olivia Wolk continued her scorching start with three more hits, going 3-for-4 with a run scored, a double, and an RBI as Hartford picked up the 5-2 victory over Franklin & Marshall.
Hartford took the lead with single runs in the first and second innings, and then doubled its advantage with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. F&M got both of those runs back in the bottom half of the fifth. The Hawks capped the scoring with a run in the sixth inning.
Freshman
Alexis Sealey (3-0) earned the complete game victory, allowing two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. She was also 2-of-4 with a run scored, a double, and an RBI.
INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES
- Hartford took advantage of four Diplomat errors to score three unearned runs.
- Wolk has recorded three hits in four of Hartford's five games. She had two hits in the other contest.
- Sealey has a hit in four of five games, including three two-hit games.
- Hartford finished with six runners left on base, while F&M had four runners left on base.
GAME TWO: SUL ROSS STATE 6, HARTFORD 3
Hartford had the tying run at the plate with no outs in the seventh, but ultimately fell to Sul Ross State Tuesday, 6-3.
Freshman
Sydney Matz opened the seventh with a double, followed by a walk to sophomore
Taylor Fitch, and the hit batter of junior
Sarah Serrano, and the Hawks were in business. Sealey brought a run home with a sacrifice fly, but the rally ended with a fly out and a line out.
The Hawks fell behind 4-0 before Matz recorded her first career hit, a two-run single that pulled Hartford to within 4-2. However, Sul Ross tacked on single runs in the fifth and seventh innings. In all, SRS scored in five of their seven innings.
Sophomore
Carly Mayhood (1-1) yielded five runs (four earned) on eight hits in five innings of work. She added four strikeouts in the outing.
INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES
- Wolk finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base to extend her hitting streak to a career-best six games. She has registered at least two hits in all six of those games.
- It was the first multi-hit game for Matz.
- Hartford swiped three more bases to push their total to 10 on the season.
WHAT'S NEXT
Hartford (4-2) will have a day off before returning to the diamond with a pair of games on Thursday. The Hawks will play Dickinson Noon Thursday and Central 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
