SB Secures Third Straight Sweep

MANSFIELD – The University of Hartford softball team continued its hot streak with a sweep of Eastern Connecticut State Wednesday at the Clyde Washburn Field.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 6, EASTERN CONNECTICUT ST. 5
Hartford scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning to snap a 4-4 tie, and the relief pitching of freshman Alex Hassett came through in pivotal moments as the Hawks secured the one-run victory in the opener.

Junior Olivia Wolk singled home the go-ahead run and a sacrifice fly by graduate Mara Sczecienski added the much-needed insurance run for Hartford.

Eastern Connecticut got a run back with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth, and had the opportunity to take the lead in the sixth. Back-to-back one-out hits had runners on second and third for the Warriors. Hassett got out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts.

Freshman Sydney Matz drove home a career-high three runs, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and run scored. Freshman Alexis Sealey was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Sczecienski finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and run scored.

Sophomore Carly Mayhood (8-2) allowed four runs on eight hits over four innings, and Hassett (3 sv.) allowed one run on three hits over the final three innings.

GAME TWO: HARTFORD 10, EASTERN CONNECTICUT ST. 8 (8 inn.)
Hartford scored a pair of two-out runs in the top of the eighth inning to secure the sweep, but it wasn't until after the Warriors stayed true to their mascot by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Junior Azya Walker recorded a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning to bring home the go-ahead run, and she scored the insurance run on an RBI double by junior Olivia Wolk.
The Hawks raced out to a six-run lead with three runs in the first and another three runs in the third. EastConn got its first run on the board in the fifth inning, but Hartford responded with two more runs in the sixth inning.

Sczecienski continued her hitting tear, going 2-for-5 with a double and four RBI, while freshman Adelie Beebe had her second three-hit game of the season – going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Walker finished the game 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three walks.

Freshman Alexis Sealey (6-2) allowed one earned run, two total, in 7.1 innings on eight hits. After holding the Warriors bats relatively quiet for the first six innings, she had to come in to get the last out in seventh and then pitched the eighth.
