Hartford Falls to Western New England

The University of Hartford baseball team fell to Western New England, 10-2, at Fiondella Field Tuesday.  


Western New England surged with four runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, solidifying their lead. They began strong with two runs in the first inning, establishing an early advantage. 

Freshman Zaynn Godbee's double to center field brought freshman Alek Popovich home, narrowing Hartford's deficit to 2-1, in the fourth inning.   

The Hawks scored their final run of the game in the seventh inning as sophomore Jeremy Mangiameli scored on a John Russell ground ball.  

Sophomore Joe Dooley (0-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on five hits, tying a career-high with seven strikeouts. 


INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES:  

  • Freshman Alex Angelidis made his collegiate debut on the mound, pitching 2.1 innings. He recorded five strikeouts, allowed only one hit, and conceded zero runs., 

  • Popovich, who went 2-of-4, has recorded a hit in 14 of the team's 15 games.  

  • Godbee has now notched his third RBI of the season in just four games started.  

  • Six different batters recorded a hit, with Popovich and West leading the team with two hits each. Notably, four of these batters are freshmen.  

  • Senior Jake Santiago is on a three-game hitting streak and has recorded a hit in five out of the seven games he has played in.  


WHAT'S NEXT:  

Hartford (3-12-1) will stay home to host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Wentworth Institute of Technology 1:00 pm Saturday in a doubleheader.
