MILTON, Mass. - The University of Hartford baseball team split a doubleheader against Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Curry College on Sunday.
GAME ONE: CURRY COLLEGE 7, HARTFORD 6
Curry scored the final seven runs of the game, over the last three innings, including three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to steal the win in the opener.
Hartford opened the scoring in the first inning as sophomore J
osh Kaplan crossed the plate on an RBI groundout by senior
Jake Santiago.
The Hawks exploded for four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead. Sophomore
Ryan Melendez doubled home freshman
Zaynn Godbee, who started the rally with a one-out single. Freshman
Payton West was hit by a pitch and sophomore
Jackson Ciccone walked to load the bases.
A Curry error enabled West and Melendez to score. Sophomore
Jermey Mangiameli scored Ciccone on a sacrifice fly to help the Hawks take the lead 5-0.
The Hawks scored one more run in the fourth inning as Kaplan singled home Melendez.
Freshman
Alex Angelidis (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing one hit and one run in two-thirds of an inning. Sophomore
Joe Dooley allowed six runs, five earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts over six innings.
GAME TWO: HARTFORD 6, CURRY COLLEGE 1
Anthony Bubba (1-0) hurled the first complete game of his career, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out a career-high seven to lift the Hawks to the win in the night cap.
Hartford did the majority of its damage in the second inning. Freshman
Tyler Shannon opened the second inning with a solo homer, his third of the season. Back-to-back walks kept the inning going, and Ciccone singled home another Hartford run. A walk loaded the bases and Santiago recorded an RBI single and Mangiameli picked up an RBI by getting hit by a pitch.
Freshman
John Melarzcik capped the scoring in the inning with an RBI fielders choice.
The Hawks finished its scoring in the third inning as Kubis, who doubled in the inning, scored on an RBI groundout by Kaplan.
Curry's only run came from an error in fifth inning.
