Hawks Dominate Framingham at Dunkin' Park

HARTFORD, Conn.-The University of Hartford baseball team came together to defeat Framingham State 14-1 at Dunkin' Donuts Park Tuesday night.  

The Hawks came out swinging, scoring an impressive six runs in the opening inning and four more in the second. The momentum continued as the game progressed. 

Freshman Stephen Kubis got hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, driving in a run, while sophomore Jackson Ciccone sprinted home for Hartford's first score. Zaynn Godbee's single to right-center brought Jeremy Mangiameli and Josh Kaplan home. The following batters continued the rally: sophomore Cameron Boardman walked, scoring Kubis, and freshman Payton West drew a walk, allowing Godbee to cross the plate. Ciccone grounded out, bringing freshman Tyler Shannon home to cap off a 3-1 scoring run.

Sophomore Mangiameli's home run to left field brought senior Santiago and himself home. Sophomore Cameron Boardman reached base after being hit by a pitch, then advanced on a wild pitch as freshman Stephen Kubis scored. West's groundout brought freshman Godbee home. 

The fifth inning saw the Hawks tack on three more runs. Santiago kickstarted the action with a single to center field, setting the stage for Kubis to drive him home with a ground ball to shortstop. Shannon added to the tally with a single to right field, allowing Mangiameli to score. Boardman kept the hits coming with his second RBI of the game, connecting with a single to center field that brought Godbee home for the 13th run. 

Hartford's offense didn't let up, scoring one final run in the sixth inning when Kubis grounded out to second base, driving in J. Kaplan. 

Freshman Anthony Bubba (2-3) made his mark on the mound. He started his third collegiate game with three solid innings, allowing just one hit while notching four strikeouts. 

  

INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES 

  • Bubba was the sole pitcher to go beyond a single inning, while the remaining four pitched just one. Collectively, the five pitchers allowed only six hits. 
  • Nine Hawks drew walks. 
  • Seven different Hawks crossed the plate, with Mangiameli and Godbee tallying three runs each. 
  • Even though West didn't score or secure any hits, he topped the RBI chart with three, matching Kubis's total. 
  • This marks Hartford's second game of the season, holding their opponents to just one run. 

WHAT'S NEXT: Hartford (9-23-1, 4-10 CCC opponents) has a quick turnaround as they hosts Williams College tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. for a nine-inning game.
