#17 Hawks Women’s Soccer defeats Clarkson University with Jenkins Hat Trick 3-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The #17 Hawks Women's Soccer team defeated Clarkson University by a 3-1 score on Friday afternoon.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks were battling in the middle of the field for the first 20 minutes of the half. The first real test against the Golden Knights defense was a corner kick in the 21st minute that was blocked by the team. Graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.) was the first Hawk to test the Golden Knights' keep with a strong shot to the bottom center that was saved off the line. Hawks continued to dominate in the opposing half. Stone sent a perfect through ball to find graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.). Jenkins slipped by the last defender with crafty foot skills and sealed her first goal with her left foot into the back of the net. Hawks lead 1-0. Hawks continued to maintain possession in the Golden Knights half. Sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished off the half with a powerful shot from the top of the box that was stopped by the Golden Knights keep. Score stood at 1-0 at the end of the first half.
  • Hawks added to their lead early in the second half with a penalty kick goal scored by Jenkins in the 46th minute. Graduate student May Cervone (Milford, Conn.) tossed a long throw-in to the feet of Jenkins in the 48th minute. Jenkins took on three defenders and secured her first hat-trick of the 2024 season. That goal fired up the Golden Knights as they had three shots at the Hawks net within the next five minutes, these all passed just over the crossbar. The Hawks and Golden Knights continued to battle in the middle of the field as we moved through the second half. Sophomore Morgan Egan (East Granby, Conn.) took a strong shot to the bottom right that was stopped by the keeper. Fans thought the score would stand at 3-0 as we approached the last ten minutes of the match. The Golden Knights were able to put one away off the foot of Aurora Zary assisted by Lillian Gillett in the 84th minute. The final score of the match was 3-1 Hawks.
Post Game Press:
"It means a lot to get three goals today, I thought the team toughed it out through a not-so pretty first-half. We were able to get a goal and come out even stronger in the second half. That's all I can ask for," said graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.). "We have a really big game coming up on Sunday so this will definitely carry some good momentum into game day. We are looking forward to continuing this winning streak and working each and every day at practice."
