#17 Hawks Fall to Colby College

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team dropped its first contest of the 2024 campaign on Sunday falling to Colby College by a 3-1 final. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Mules had the opening chances in the 10th and 13th minute, but junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) made two early saves to keep the game 0-0. Sophomore Morgan Egan (East Granby, Conn.) had the first chance for the Hawks, but her shot was stopped by Mules keeper MK Marshall in the 35th minute. Colby College struck first in the 36th minute as Claire Walsh hit the back of the net as the visitors escaped the first half up 1-0. 
  • The second half started with graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) who evened the scored in the first 26 seconds of the second half. Sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) almost put the home team in front in the 51st minute, but another stellar save kept the score at 1-1. The Mules took the lead in the 70th minute as Charlotte Johnson netted the goal assisted by Ella Caraluzzi. 10 minutes later the visitors tapped in an insurance goal with Madison Genser putting away the game in favor of Colby. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Jenkins netted her 5th goal of the season in the loss. 
  • Johnson falls to 2-1-1 on the season making four saves. 
  • The Mules out shot the Hawks by a 10-5 margin and a 7-4 on target differential. 
Up Next: 
The Hawks will host the University of Saint Joseph in a West Hartford clash on Wednesday with a 6:00 p.m. start.
