Hawks Drop Opening CNE Contest to Endicott College

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team opened up Conference of New England (CNE) play on Saturday dropping their first conference contest to Endicott College by a 2-1 final. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Gulls had the first chance of the game as Callie Neils took a shot that was saved by junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) in the 8th minute. The Hawks started off the scoring in the 9th minute as graduate student May Cervone (Milford, Conn.) netted a goal on a fantastic find by graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.). Endicott quickly answered as a bad pass found the foot of Riley Rischitelli who beat Johnson to even the score in the 15th minute. Both teams continued to battle with chances missing target until the Gulls stormed ahead in the 39th minute as Eliza Walker scored on an assist by Ella Morgan to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage headed into the break. 
  • Sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) and graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) had the opening chances for the Hawks to start the second half, but Rosalina Caliri made two big saves to keep the visitors in front. The Gulls had two chances in the middle of the second half, but both escaped the net over the top. Hartford would have two corner kicks in the last ten minutes, but couldn't register a shot as they fell by a 2-1 final. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Cervone netted her first goal of the 2024 season, it is the sixth of her career. 
  • Stone picked up her team-leading four assist on the season in the loss. 
  • Johnson falls to 2-2-1 on the season making a single save. 
  • The teams were even in shots with seven and shots on target with three. 
Up Next: 
The Hawks will travel to Gorham, Maine to take on the University of Southern Maine on September 25th with a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
