GORHAM, Maine - The University of Hartford women's soccer picked up a much-needed non-conference win on Wednesday evening defeating the University of Southern Maine by a 2-0 final.

- The Hawks picked up an early goal as a corner kick took an extra bounce to the foot of graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.) who deposited a shot into the back of the net in the fourth minute to give the visitors the edge. In the 21st minute sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) almost pushed the lead to two with a shot that was saved by Hunter Stonebraker. The first Huskies chance came in the 24th minute as Ashley Sabatino took a shot saved by junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.). Brush had the final chance for the Hawks in the 40th minute, but again Stonebraker made a save as Hartford took the 1-0 lead into the second half.
- The second half started with a handful of chances for the home team, but the University of Southern Maine could not get by Johnson and the Hawks defense as the seven shots all could not hit the net. Sophomore Morgan Egan (East Granby, Conn.) added a huge chance in the 53rd minute, but another save by Stonebraker kept the lead at 1-0. The best chance for the Huskies came in the 69th minute as they were awarded a penalty, which hit the post and was cleared out. In the 77th minute Brush doubled the lead on a beautiful find by Stone to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage. The Huskies had one final chance, but Cierra Hill hit the crossbar to preserve the shutout win for the Hawks.

Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.). "We had individuals step up when we needed them to and we got the job done on the road. We know we have work to do but we're looking forward to continuing to improve with each game!"
Inside the Numbers:
- Stone picked up her first goal of the 2024 season to go with her fifth assist of the year. Christina sits at 30 career assists which is only three behind the program record held by Kim Lemere.
- Brush collected her second goal of the 2024 season in the win.
- Johnson picks up her third shutout of the year making five saves to improve her record to 3-2-1.
- The Huskies out shot the Hawks by a 18-10 margin, while Hartford earned a 8-5 on target differential.
