Hawks Secure a Shutout Victory Over Roger Williams

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Hartford men's soccer team picked up a conference win on Saturday afternoon defeating Roger Williams University with a 2-0 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hartford Hawks were challenged early with a dangerous shot from Patenaude for Roger Willams in the 15th minute that was blocked away by junior Ryan Lunn (Southington, Conn.). RWU continued to stay on the attack with three more shots within the next five minutes that were up and out. Junior Nick Castrovinci (Roxbury, N.J.) wins the ball in the center of the field and pushes the ball through a couple of RWU defenders to find the feet of senior Kellijah Morgan (Kingston, Jamaica). Morgan uses some clever footwork to juke out the last defender and slips the ball into the back of the net to put the Hawks up 1-0 in the 23rd minute. Both the Hartford and RWU Hawks found themselves in trouble trading four fouls each in the next 15 minutes. The Hawks ended the half with a last minute chance from freshman David Czubat (Rocky Hill, Conn.) who took a powerful shot that was stopped by RWU keep Hogan Cain.
  • In the second half Hartford had early shots from freshman Kyle Theobald (Sandyston, N.J.) and Castrovinci that were saved by the Roger Williams team. Castrovinci was not done yet though as he once again finds the feet of his offensive duo Morgan who drills the ball into the back of the net putting the Hawks up 2-0 in the 59th minute. Both the RWU Hawks and Hartford Hawks continued to battle in the middle of the field. RWU was hungry to answer as Thomas tried a shot into the bottom corner of the net that was blocked and saved by Lunn. RWU had three more shots within the next ten minutes that were all saved by Hartford keep Lunn. RWU had multiple opportunities late in the game with six corner kicks in just the second half. Junior Jack Merrill (Newton, N.J.) maintained a strong line of defense throughout this game and cleared a shot from RWU off the goal line late in the game. Hartford's defense held strong to bring the Hawks to a 2-0 shutout against the RWU Hawks.
Post Game Press:
"After a hard battle against Endicott we really wanted to bounce back, so we worked hard in this last week and we really came out flying today with the 2-0 win," said junior Jack Merril (Newton, N.J.). "Coach says if you can put in a hard tackle, make them feel it so I made the tackles in order to rev up the team. I want to thank the fans for coming, it is always better when we have more people in the crowd we could feel the electricity and we really appreciate it."
