Hawks Upset Trinity College 2-1 on Monday Night

HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Hartford men's soccer team picked up their seventh win of the season on Monday night defeating Trinity College by a 2-1 final on the road. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Bantams struck first in the 6th minute as Shane Ivey slotted a shot past junior Ryan Lunn (Southington, Conn.) on an assist by Mike Desmond. The Hawks responded quickly scoring just 17 seconds later as sophomore Austin Murawski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) found senior Devan Jessop (Ashaway, R.I.) for the equalizer. The Hawks took the lead in the 14th minute as a yellow by Mike Desmond setup a penalty for the visitors. Murawski finished the kick as Hartford took the 2-1 advantage. Trinity tried to answer with three shots on target in the final 31 minutes, but Lunn stayed strong holding the 2-1 lead. 
  • The Bantams continued the pressure in the early portion of the second half getting three shots all not finding the back of the net. Murawski netted another chance in the 65th minute but Matt Birnhak denied the opportunity. In the 71st minute Ian Spiro for the Bantams almost evened the score, but he hit the woodwork to keep the score in favor of the Hawks. Trinity had two final chances, but both pushed wide as the Hawks picked up the upset win.

"It was a great team effort and I'm happy to have been able to help the team get the win", said sophomore Austin Murawski. "We needed people to step up without Kellijah and Q being able to play and people did."

Inside the Numbers: 
  • Murawski tallied first collegiate goal and assist for the Hawks in the win. 
  • De. Jessop also notches his first collegiate goal in the victory. 
  • Lunn made six saves for the Hawks as he improved to 5-1-1 on the season in between the sticks. 
  • Hartford were out shot by Trinity by a 17-8 margin and a 7-6 on target differential. 
  • The Hawks pick up their third-straight victory and their second three game winning streak of the season with the win.
Up Next:
The Hawks will head up to Boston to take on Suffolk University on October 5th with a 3:00 p.m. start.
