Hawks Draw Against Bowdoin to Open 2024

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Hartford women's soccer team opened up competition on Tuesday evening drawing Bowdoin College 0-0. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Hawks had the opening chance in the game as senior Juliana Chiarella (Hampden, Mass.) had a scoring opportunity saved by Polar Bears keeper Charlotte Iannone in the 19th minute. The teams continued to battle with another chance for Hartford freshman Alexa Frendo (Whitby, Ontario) in the 39th minute, but the shot was again stopped. The Polar Bears added three shots in the first half, but all avoided the target. 
  • In the second half the Hawks almost opened the scoring as graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.) had a shot stopped by Iannone in the 46th minute. Bowdoin quickly countered getting their first shot on target with junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) making the save. Sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) added a shot on target in the 57th minute, but again was no trouble for Iannone. Bowdoin had the final chance in the match with a pair of chances, but Johnson stayed strong in the net to keep the game even. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Johnson earns the shutout in the 2024 opener making three saves in net. 
  • The Polar Bears out shot the Hawks by a 8-7 margin, while the Hawks had a 4-3 on target differential.

The Hawks will host Montclair State University on Saturday September 7th with a 11:00 a.m. kickoff.
