Hawks Bested by Suffolk University on Wednesday

BOSTON, Mass. - The Hartford men's basketball team dropped its third-consecutive game on Wednesday night falling to Suffolk University by a 78-55 margin. The Hawks now sit at 2-5 in the Conference of New England (CNE). 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Rams jumped ahead 10-3 in the early going before junior Drew Stack (Madison, N.J.) dropped in a three followed by an three-pointer plus the foul by freshman Cooper Galdenzi (Clinton, Conn.) had the Hawks even 10-10. Hartford jumped in front quickly as freshman Troy Santos (Taunton, Mass.) netted his first three of the night, but Suffolk countered with back-to-back shots from deep to hold a 18-13 advantage. The Rams quickly pushed the lead to 38-19 with 6:37 to play in the first half using a 20-6 run over six minutes. The Hawks tried to keep the game in striking distance, but found themselves down 51-31 headed into the break. 
  • Sophomore Joshua Petion (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished back-to-back-to-back layups to try and keep the Hawks in the game as they trailed 55-37 with 16:22 to play. Galdenzi netted two-consecutive threes, followed by another finish for Petion to cut the Ram lead to 15 points with 12:40 left. The lead was trimmed to just 13, but Suffolk stormed back pushing the lead back to 20 points with 4:09 to go en route to the 78-55 victory. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Petion put together a double-double with 15 points (7-13 FG, 1-4 FT) and 11 rebounds. Galdenzi continues to look good in the starting lineup with 12 points (3-4 FG, 3-4 3PT, 3-3 FT) and five boards. Santos added 10 points (3-11 FG, 1-2 3PT, 3-4 FT) and a pair of assists. 
  • Keenan Robertson had a huge game for the Rams pouring in a game-high 25 points (10-17 FG, 5-8 3PT) to go with seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Nick Verdile added 15 points (5-12 FG, 3-8 3PT, 2-2 FT), four assists and three steals. 
  • Suffolk was scorching from behind the arc going 13-34 from three while the Hawks finished the game 6-18 from deep. 
Up Next:
The Hawks will take on Endicott College on Saturday with a 3:00 PM tip in Beverly.
