WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hawks hosted a Conference of New England (CNE) clash between themselves and Gordon College on Saturday. Hartford would lose this match in three sets at the hand of the Fighting Scots.
Rapid Recap:
- Gordon would get on a jump early, as they would take a 11-5 advantage to start the first set. The Hawks would mount somewhat of a comeback bringing the game within seven, 18-11, with a service ace from sophomore Gabriela Caucci (Bristol, Conn.) as well as some kills from juniors Jordan Murphy (Easthampton, Conn.) and Jenna Murphy (Easthampton, Conn.). However the deficit would be too large to overcome and Gordon would snag the first set 25-13.
- The Hawks would get things going early on, scoring the first two points by way of a Gordon error, and kill from Jo. Murphy. The Scots would bring things to square and the two teams would trade blows back and forth over the next several points. With the game tied at 13, Gordon would mount a 12-5 run that would secure them the second set 25-17.
- Hartford would again get things going early, as junior Kalle Legassey (Prospect, Conn.) would earn a kill and service ace to boost the Hawks to a 3-0 start. However, Hordon would come right back and score the next five points unanswered. Gordon would begin pulling away, as they would find themselves up 16-9 however some key kills from Jo. Murphy and freshman Mattea Cosby (Enfield, Conn.) would bring Hartford right back in the game tying things at 18. The Hawks kept Gordon from going on another big run, but steady attacks sealed the deal for Gordon as they would take the third set 25-22, and take the match in three sets.
Inside the Numbers:
- Jo. Murphy lead the Hawks in kills with 14, freshman Lauren Johnson (Fort Collins, Colo.) would finish with 8 kills, Je. Murphy, Legassey, and Cosby would all notch one kill.
- Cosby was the leader in assists for the Hawks notching 10 in three sets, followed closely by Senior Kylee Connally (Dallas, Texas.) with nine.Â
- Hartford would outscore the Scots, in terms of digs, with 48-41.
- The Hawks would finish three sets with a hitting percentage of .108%

The Hawks will hit the road in the midweek to take on Anna Maria College in Paxton, Mass on Tuesday, Oct. 13th with first serve slated for 6:00PM.
