Hartford Field Hockey Concludes Season in Loss to University of New England

BIDDEFORD, Maine - The Hartford field hockey team fell in its final contest of the 2025 season to conclude its inaugural season on Saturday losing to the University of New England by a 6-0 final. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Nor'easters was on the attack from the opening whistle getting three shots in the first nine minutes, but freshman Carolyn Somers (Worcester, Mass.) made all three saves. Kate Kelso gave the home side the lead in the 10th minute on an assist by Ava Wolverton. Somers would make two more saves as the Hawks trailed 1-0 headed into the second quarter. 
  • UNE would get back in the score column in the 21st minute as Kelso scored once again. In the 25th minute Micaela Jacobs would add a score for the Nor'easters as the lead was 3-0 at halftime. 
  • After a couple more saves by Somers started the third quarter the Nor'easters scored once again taking the 4-0 lead. Jacobs would best the effort from Somers. Freshman Aubrey Paul (Verona, N.J.) would check in the 41st minute immediately making a save. The Nor'easters would get a fifth goal in the 44th minute to expand the lead to 5-0 headed into the final 15 minutes.
  • Paul was stellar for the Hawks making three saves before allowing a penalty stroke goal as the Nor'easters would win the contest 6-0. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Somers played the first 40 minutes making 11 saves, while Paul stopped seven shots in defeat. 
  • Kelso tallied three goals to lead the offensive output for the Nor'easters.
  • UNE out shot the Hawks 32-0 with a 24-0 on target advantage. 
Up Next: 
The Hawks first field hockey season concludes with a record of 3-12. Freshman Kyra Benard (Agawam, Mass.) led the offense registering 16 points (seven goals and two assists). Freshman Molly O'Donnell (Holyoke, Mass.) had five defensive saves to lead the team while Somers made 99 saves in her first season as the Hawks goalie.
