Hawks Men's Soccer Wins Third-Straight Defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology 4-1

BOSTON, Mass. - The Hartford men's soccer team picked up a crucial three points on Saturday defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 4-1 final. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Hawks struck quick as junior Austin Murawski (Rocky Hill, Conn.) found sophomore David Czubat (Rocky Hill, Conn.) in the 2nd minute for a goal to stun the home side. Hartford would get two more chances in the first 10 minutes as Giovanni Ruggeri made two saves. Murawski continued his stellar form in the 26th minute getting his sixth goal of the year to double the Hawk lead. In the 29th minute the Leopards would strike as Charles Gaynor bested the Hawk keeper to cut the deficit to 2-1. Neither team would get another chance as the visitors led by one headed into the second half. 
  • After the first 15 minutes of the second half neither team had a real chance, but in the 62nd minute sophomore Brayden Tahiliani (Whitby, Ontario) scored on a find by sophomore Kyle Theobald (Sandyston, N.J.) to get the lead back to two goals. Wentworth would get a chance in the 70th minute with senior Ryan Lunn (Southington, Conn.) making the diving save. Murawski would get his brace in the 83rd minute scoring a silencer to help the Hawks win by the 4-1 final. 

Inside the Numbers:

  • Murawski scored two goals to go with an assist to keep his stellar form. Austin has scored a goal in four of the last six games and has 15 points in that span. 
  • Czubat and Tahiliani both scored their third goals of the season in the win, while Theobald added his first collegiate assist. 
  • Lunn picked up his seventh win of the season making two saves. 
  • The teams both had 12 shots in the game with Hartford owning a 9-3 on target differential. 
Playoff Standings:
The Hawks currently sit in the #6 seed with one remaining contest in the Conference of New England (CNE) playoff standings. Hartford would most likely need a win on Tuesday to guarantee a CNE playoff bid.
