Hawks Split Day Two of Space Coast Spring Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. The Hawks enter day two of the Space Coast Spring Games, Saturday,  as they took on Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) and would come out on top 10-0 in five innings. Hartford would also face Nebraaska Weselyan University (NWU) and would come up short 4-0.

Rapid Recap (Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts):
  • The Hawks got things going early on as senior Olivia Wolk (Sugarloaf, Pa.) would drive in an RBI double in her first plate appearence, giving Hartford the early lead.
  • In the third inning the Hawks' bats exploded as freshman Lucy Lembo (Albany, N.Y.) would knock in a sacrafice fly driving in Wolk. Sophomore Bridgette Bernard (North Andover, Mass.) would hit an RBI single to further extend the Hartford lead. Junior Lauren Ackerman (North Branford, Conn.) tacked on two more in the third driving in senior Sarah Serrano (Windsor, Conn.) and Bernard with an RBI single. Hartford would again cross the plate as sophomore Alexis Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) would score on a dropped fly ball to second base. 
  • Bernard would continue to drive in runs, as in the fourth inning she knocked in 2 RBIs on a groundout to third. Later in the fourth inning Serrano would hit an RBI single that would put the Hawks up 9-0.
  • In the fifth freshman Katrina Baran (Townsend, Del.) would score another run whilst reaching on a RBI fielder's choice.
In the Circle:
  • Sophomore Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) pitched all five innings for the Hawks, finishing the day with 10 strikeouts, no walks, and giving up three hits.
At the Plate:
  • Wolk finished the game going 2-2 with one RBI, on a double and a triple.
Rapid Recap (Nebraska Weselyan University:)
  • The Prairie Wolves got on the board early, capitalizing on an error in the second inning to give them an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
  • NWU added to their lead in in the next inning coming off a sacrifice fly.
  • In the sixth inning the Prairie Wolves would again tack onto their lead as they would score again coming off an error at third base, and another error at first base. Bringing the final score to 4-0.
In the Circle:
  • Junior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) started things off for Hartford, throwing two innings with three strikeouts, one walk, and letting in one run.
  • Freshman Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) threw four innings giving up five hits, three runs, one error. And finishing with four strikeouts in 18 at bats.
  • Sealey threw one inning in the Hawks second game of the day, finishing with one strikeout, no hits, and no walks in the three at bats faced.
At the Plate:
  • Wolk finished the game with the Hawks only hit, with a single through shortstop in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Up Next:
The Hawks play their final game of the Space Coast Spring Games Sunday Mar. 16 with first pitch slated 4:45 PM.
