Hawks Fall to Keene State 12-6

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to Keene State College on Friday afternoon losing 12-6. 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks jumped in front on a pair of sacrifice flies. Freshman Nico DiGioia (Hamden, Conn.) and sophomore Tyler Shannon (Madison, N.J.) both came around to score after singling and doubling. The RBIs went to junior Jackson Ciccone (Danbury, Conn.) and junior Jeremy Mangiameli (Middlefield, Conn.). Freshman Jeffrey Blake (Hopewell, N.J.) started strong going four shutout innings, however had trouble in the fifth allowing three runs to the Owls. Keene State hit two homers with a two-run shot by Luke Anderson and a second by Evan Cali. Hartford would even the score at 3-3 as sophomore JJ Romatzick (Stratford, Conn.) singled home sophomore Cameron Boardman (Bradford, Vt.) who doubled to get into scoring position.
  • The Owls offense would explode in the top half of the sixth inning getting eight runs on seven hits and two defensive errors to take a 11-3 lead. The Hawks would get two runs back in the bottom of the seventh inning as Romatzick singled home Boardman and Mangiameli as the lead was cut to six runs. In the top of the ninth inning Keene State got a 12th run on an error. Hartford would get a final run back as Mangiameli came around on a wild pitch as the Hawks fell 12-6. 
On the Mound:
  • Blake picked up the loss throwing five plus innings allowing seven runs on eight hits to go with three strikeouts. Junior Logan Huzi (Trumbell, Conn.) was next with two innings allowing four runs (zero earned) on four hits with a punch out. Sophomore Tyler Blumetti (Southington, Conn.) followed with two innings just allowing a single run to go with a pair of strikeouts. 
At the Plate:
  • DiGioia led the offensive effort going 3-for-4, with a run scored. Boardman went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and runs scored. Romatzick brought home three runs in a 2-for-5 day, while Mangiameli went 1-for-3, with a double and two runs scored. 
Up Next:
The Hawks be host Wheaton College tomorrow with a 11:00 AM start time before taking on Keene State on Sunday.
