NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The Hawks traveled to upstate New York on Wednesday afternoon, falling short against SUNY New Paltz by the score of 7-4 in a hard-fought mid-week match up.
Rapid Recap:
- Sophomore J.J. Romatzick (Stratford, Conn.) led off the top of the first with a single to extend his hitting streak to a whopping 21 games, however Hartford could not plate a run. The Hawks of New Paltz would jump on Hartford's starter freshman Jeffrey Blake (Hopewell, N.J.) early, notching three runs in the first on three hits. New Paltz would continue their fast start tallying a run in the bottom of the third via a single and one in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly to push the advantage to 5-0.
- Hartford stormed back in the top of the sixth. It started with singles by junior Jeremy Mangiameli (Middlefield, Conn.) and junior Patrick Joseph (Pomona, N.Y.). The visitors would get on the board courtesy of a two RBI double by junior Ryan Knight (Peabody, Mass.). That was followed up by a RBI single by Romatzick and finally a RBI groundout by sophomore Alek Popovich (Rochdale, Mass.) to cut the deficit to 5-4.
- New Paltz would respond back however, tallying a run in the bottom half of the sixth and another in the bottom of the
eighth. The Hartford bats remained silent in the final couple innings falling to 11-11 on the season.
On the Mound:

The Hawks of Hartford turned the ball over to the freshman Blake who registered five innings pitched while allowing five runs on eight hits and one walk. First out of the pen for Hartford was the junior Logan Huzi (Trumbull, Conn.) who recorded five outs and only allowed one run. Finally on the bump for the Hawks sophomore Sean Stanley (Teaneck, N.J.) made his first appearance of the year, going 1.1 innings and only allowing one run.
At the Plate:

Romatzick led the way for Hartford at the dish, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base, whilst also claiming the record for the longest hit streak in Hartford Baseball history since 2013 at 21 games. The Hawks offense was supplemented by a multi-hit performance from Popovich (2-for-5) and Joseph (2-for-4). Knight also put together a great day at the plate for Hartford driving in two of the four runs on the day in a 1-for-4 day at the plate.

The Hawks will come back home to Fiondella field next time out as they hold host to Curry College this Saturday, April 5th for a conference doubleheader. The first pitches for those match ups are slated for 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM respectively.
