BRISTOL, R.I..
- The Hartford women's lacrosse team has advanced to the Conference of New England (CNE) championship after upsetting Roger Williams University on the road by a 15-14 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks of Roger Williams jumped ahead 5-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game finally stopped by a goal for senior Meghan Smith (Orange, Conn.). Sophomore Madison Olmstead (Wolcott, Conn.) followed it up with a man-up goal of her own, but RWU took a 7-2 lead after one quarter.
- Smith kicked off the second quarter getting her second, but the home team answered within 35 seconds to keep the lead at five. Sophomore Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.) on an assist by sophomore Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.), but once again the RWU Hawks responded. Olmstead would kick off a huge run with 6:54 in the half starting a five goal spurt highlighted by two goals for sophomore Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) as the game was even at 9-9 headed into the second half.
- The teams traded goals with Roger Williams jumping ahead 12-10 with 8:11 to play in the third quarter. Junior Courtney Ingham (Bedford, N.H.) started another run with a free position goal, followed by a goal for Smith and Samela as the Hartford Hawks jumped in front for the first time in the game as we headed to the fourth quarter.
- Freshman Kate Zonin (North Smithfield, R.I.) added a huge goal assisted by Ingham with 9:42 to play as the Hartford lead was 14-12. Roger Williams answered, but Olmstead powered in a goal with 5:28 to play to get the 15th for the Hawks. Roger would score with 1:26 to play, but a huge ground ball for Smith with 36 seconds left led to the Hartford playoff win.

"We all worked really hard this season to be here and today we came together as a unit", said sophomore
Emily Campbell (Plainville, Mass.). "We are very excited for the championship on Saturday. Today we proved to never underestimate the underdogs."
Inside The Numbers:
- Campbell picked up the win in the cage coming into the game in relief. Emily made seven stops in 49:57 minutes.
- Olmstead led the offense with five points on four goals, and an assist. Smith added four huge goals and four grounders.
- Samela added three goals, three caused turnovers and six ground balls.
- Emma Terino led RWU with seven points in the loss. Allie Shamberger added six points.
Up Next:
The Hawks will travel to Endicott College on Saturday for the CNE Championship with a 4:00 PM start.
