BEVERLY, Mass. - The Hawks women's lacrosse team ended its 2025 season on Saturday falling to Endicott College in the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship by a 25-19 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Gulls jumped ahead 3-0 after three minutes of play on the home field. The Hawks responded in a huge way scoring next six goals to take the 6-3 lead. Sophomore Madison Olmstead (Wolcott, Conn.) started off the scoring followed by senior Meghan Smith (Orange, Conn.). Freshman Kate Zonin (North Smithfield, R.I.) got the equalizer, while sophomore Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) gave the visitors the 4-3 lead. Smith would net the final goals of the run. Leah Black would answer, but Olmstead would score the seventh goal for the Hawks with 2:49 to play. Endicott would get two scores in the final two minutes as the home team trailed 7-6 headed into the second quarter.
- The second quarter was dominated by the Gulls as they would open the scoring with a 5-0 run to take a 11-7 advantage with 6:55 to play in the half. Smith stopped the run with a free position, but Black for the Gulls responded. Zonin added a goal, but after two Endicott goals the home team was in front 14-9.
- The lead hit 16-10 after a goal for junior Courtney Ingham (Bedford, N.H.), but Black continued to dominated getting another goal to push the lead to 17-10. Hartford started the comeback with 5:50 to play in the quarter as junior Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) started a 4-0 closing run by the Hawks. Zonin scored the next goal followed by another pair of strikes by Smith as the Gull lead sat at 18-15 with 15 minutes to play.
- Endicott would quickly get the lead back to six goals scoring the first three times in the fourth. Smith would score the next three goals for Hartford but the visitors continued to trail by a 23-18 margin. Junior Kelly Hoxie (Nassau, N.Y.) added the 19th goal for the Hawks who now just trailed by four goals with 7:15 to play, but the weather played a factor in the fourth as it began to down pour to slow down the offensive output. The Gulls would score twice late to hold on for the victory.
Inside The Numbers:
- Smith ended her career with a gem of a game scoring nine goals to go with two assists and eight draws. Zonin tallied three goals and three grounders. Olmstead registered two goals and an assist.
- Defensively senior Madison Carangelo (Vernon, Conn.) and junior Samantha Ciaglo (Colchester, Conn.) each caused a turnover, while sophomore Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.) caused two turnovers.
- Sophomore Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) picked up the loss making 10 saves. Sophomore Emily Campbell (Plainville, Mass.) finished the game making two saves.
- Leah Black was named the Most Outstanding Player in the tournament leading the Gulls with nine points in the championship win.
