SMITHFIELD R.I. Hartford baseball traveled to Bryant University for a clash with the #6 seed Roger Williams University Hawks in the first round of the Conference of New England (CNE) playoff tournament. The first game took place at 12:00 PM and the Hartford Hawks came out on top, with a final score of 5-2.

The Hawks would get on the scoresheet early, as graduate student Jake Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) would single to drive home sophomore Alek Popovich (Rochdale, Mass.) in the first.

The Hartford bats didn't slow down as junior Ryan Knight (Peabody, Mass) came home in the second inning off the bat of junior Josh Kaplan (Suffern, N.Y.) who advanced sophomore Tyler Shannon (Madison, N.J.) to third and would later score from a sophomore JJ Romatzick (Stratford, Conn.) single.

In the third, the Roger Williams University bats woke up as Noah Hester scored on a sacrifice fly from Sheehan. Later in the inning, Owen Hibbard scored on a single from Folan cutting into the Hartford lead 3-2.

In the bottom of the eighth inning Hartford would extend the lead once again when Knight would come across on a single from Shannon, to secure the Hawk victory, as the lead would be too much to overcome, and Hartford would come out on top 5-2.
At the Plate:

Knight finished the game with a 2-3 line including a walk. Knight would score twice in the game as well proving to be a thorn in the RWU side. Knight in both of his hits doubled to right field. Shannon was also 2-3 on the day with 2 singles and a walk, along with that Shannon drove in one run. Santiago was 2-4 on the day with 2 RBI's and a home run.
On the mound:

Sophomore Anthony Bubba (Jefferson, N.J.) on the mound for the Hawks was electric, going six innings, allowing two runs on five hits in 32 batters faced. Senior Luke Rier (Miami, Fla.) would then come in for relief in the seventh inning, working two innings, striking out four and allowing two hits in nine batters faced. The Hawks closer, junior Michael Featherstone (Ramsey, N.J.) entered the game in the ninth, where he faced four batters allowed two hits but no runs.
