Hawks Come Up Short to Clark University 3-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hawks took on the Cougars of Clark University on Tuesday, where Clark was able to come out on top against the Hawks in four sets (3-1). 

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks would jump out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set, spearheaded by a handful of errors , and a kill from sophomore Jordan Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.)  only for Clark to come back and even the score at seven a piece. Clark would build on this momentum, pushing the score to 8-10, the Hawks would then come back and tie the game at 10 a piece. The back and forth would continue as the score would be even again 15-15, with a service ace by junior Kalle Legassey (Prospect, Conn.). This exchange of points would continue into the 20th point, where Clark would go on a 3-0 run, giving them the lead at 23-20. Hartford would fight back with another kill by Jo. Murphy, however the Clark points would continue and they would be take set one 25-21. 
  • Hartford would again jump to an early lead, coming off a kill from senior Julianna Robinshaw (South Windsor, Conn.). Clark would retaliate quickly scoring the next seven points, and putting them in the lead 11-6. Clark would continue to grow the lead, 19-9, the Hawks would fight back with a 3-0 run coming off a kill, and service ace from Robinshaw, Hartford would again go on a 7-2 run late in the second set, with kills coming from Jo. Murphy and a pair of service aces from sophomore Gabriela Caucci (Bristol, Conn.) bringing the score to 23-19. Clark would go onto score the next two points, winning the set and taking a 2-0 lead.
  • The Hawks would once again gain an early lead as senior Kylee Connally (Dallas, Texas.) would secure a pair of service aces to start the third set. After another couple of kills from Robinshaw would put the Hawks up 10-4. Clark would begin to claw back into the game, making the score 8-12, but Hartford would maintain their momentum with a 9-4 run, putting the third set within reach at 21-11. Robinshaw would knock down another kill inching the Hawks closer, and a pair of attack errors and another kill from Jo. Murphy would seal the deal for the Hawks as they would win set three 25-14.
  • The Cougars would jump to an early 4-0 lead in the fourth set, Hartford would fight back with a service error, and a kill from Jo. Murphy but the Clark attack would be too much to bear, as they would go on another run, this time a 6-2 advantage bringing the set score to 9-4. The Hawks would score the next three unanswered with kills coming from Jo. Murphy and freshman Lauren Johnson (Fort Collins, Colo.) Clark would score their next three unanswered, bringing the score to 12-7. Clark would go on another big run this time 8-1, bringing them five points in reach 20-10. With their backs against the wall Hartford would find some life, scoring three unanswered with two kills from Robinshaw, but Clark would end things in the fourth set defeating the Hawks 25-18, and taking the match 3-1.
Inside the Numbers:
  • Jo. Murphy lead the game in kills with 12, Robinshaw followed closely behind with 11. 
  • Robinshaw also notched three aces, with Caucci and Connally with two. 
  • Sophomore Jenna Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.) lead the team in blocks with four, Jo. Murphy finished with two.
  • Connally would notch 14 assists for Hartford, leading the team, freshman Mattea Cosby (Enfield, Conn.)
