Hawks Women's Soccer Bounces Back with 3-1 Victory Over Emmanuel College

BOSTON, Mass. - The Hartford women's soccer team improved to 4-1-1 on the season on Wednesday defeating Emmanuel College by a 3-1 final.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Hawks jumped right out in front getting an opening goal 17 seconds into the contest. Senior Cameryn Wilkinson (Wethersfield, Conn.) picked up her third goal of the season on an assist by freshman Anastasia Nerney (Glocester, R.I.) as Hartford was up 1-0. 20 seconds later the Saints tried to answer as Aleena Solano took a shot that was easily saved by senior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.). Sarah Dullaghan also tried to even the score in the 24th minute, but Johnson stopped the shot with ease as the lead stayed 1-0. In the 29th minute senior Rebecca Opdenbrouw (Vernon, Conn.) doubled the Hawk lead besting the Saints keeper with an unassisted goal. Junior Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) would have the final chance in the first half, but Teigan Robie made the stop to keep the Hawks up 2-0 into the break.
  • Hartford stayed on the attack in the early going getting the first two shots of the half, but both missing the target. Nerney would give the Hawks the commanding 3-0 lead in the 54th minute with a beautiful right-footed strike to the top corner. Emmanuel would once again try to respond quickly, but Johnson stayed sure-handed making the save later in the 54th. Freshman Sophia Coer (Thomaston, Conn.) almost made the lead four in the 68th minute, but Robie made the stop to keep the visitors advantage at 3-0. Johnson would make three more saves in the second half before allowing a goal to Loliana Morales, but the Hawks would win comfortably 3-1.
Post Game Press:
"It feels great to come off strong after a tough loss", said freshman Anastasia Nerney (Glocester, R.I.). "It shows how good we really are, and how good we're going to be. It was a little difficult for me to find the right head space after not having a great game on Saturday, but with the support of my teammates they helped me move on and that's why I was able to play a much better game tonight!"
