Hawks Defeat CNE Opponent Western New England University 2-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford Hawks men's soccer team come from behind to defeat the Western New England Golden Bears this Saturday by a score of 2-1. With this result, Hartford now moves to 3-2-1 on the season. 
Rapid Recap: 
  • The Golden Bears would start the game strong, as Jack Leland would slot one home 10 minutes into the game. Western New England would continue to pile on the pressure in the first half, as they out-shot the Hawks six to one. Thankfully for the Hawks, senior goalkeeper Ryan Lunn (Southington, Conn.) made three saves in the first half to keep it a one-goal game. 11 fouls were called in the first half, with six on Hartford, and five on the Golden Bears, which showed how physical both teams were to start the game. 
  • After their offensive struggles to start the first half, the Hawks would start the second half red hot, getting three shots in less than six minutes. Then, on shot number four, sophomore Jared Noble (Nesconset, N.Y.) would find the back of the net to even the score. Just one minute later, senior Nick Castrovinci (Roxbury, N.J.) would score to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead off a counterattack. Western New England would continue to pile on the pressure, with 15 shots on goal. However, they wouldn't convert any of those chances, and Hartford would escape with the win. 
Inside the Numbers: 
  • Ryan Lunn had his best game of the season in net, as he had 13 saves with 10 coming in the second half. 
  • The Golden Bears would out-shoot Hartford by a staggering three to one margin, as the final shot tally was 21-7. 
  • 14 total fouls were called by the end of the game, with each team finishing with seven in total.

The Hawks will travel to Endicott College for their third CNE matchup of the year, as they take on the Gulls next Saturday, September 27th at 3:00 p.m.
