Hawks Upset Endicott College 1-0

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Hartford women's soccer team had a successful business trip on Saturday defeating Endicott College 1-0 in a Conference of New England (CNE) thriller.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Gulls would get the first chance in the 18th minute as Sofia Agudelo had a shot stopped by senior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.). The home team would also get the next four attempts but all would miss target as we moved into the first half hour. The teams would battle for possession in the final 15 minutes without a single shot coming for the Hawks as the teams were even heading into the break.
  • Senior Rebecca Opdenbrouw (Vernon, Conn.) took the first shot for Hartford in the 48th minute, but it was off target as the game stayed even. Finley Barker had a chance for the Gulls in the 53rd minute but another comfortable save by Johnson kept the game scoreless. Sophomore Angela Chávez (Glastonbury, Conn.) would get the first attempt on target for the visitors in the 58th minute with a save going to Samantha MacCormack. Headed into the final 15 minutes the teams were still even with two more saves going to Johnson who looked stellar on the back line. In the 82nd minute the Hawks would get on the score sheet as Opdenbrouw curled a shot into the bottom corner on a pass from freshman Anastasia Nerney (Glocester, R.I.). Endicott would get a final chance in the 86th minute, but Johnson stayed strong holding on for the win.
