WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hawks took on non-conference opponent UMass Dartmouth, Tuesday evening, in which the Hawks and Corsairs would tie with two goals coming from each team.
Rapid Recap:
- Hartford would get off to a hot start, dominating possession and pushing their attack, junior Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) firing off three shots, before notching one in the back of the net, coming off an assist from senior Rebecca Opdenbrouw (Vernon, Conn.) in the 21st minute. Hartford would keep their attack as in the 21st minute Brush crept behind the defense in their defending third, and slipped by the Keeper to increase the Hawk lead to 2-0. Hartford would continue to push the UMass Dartmouth defense, letting off 14 shots in the first half.
- In the second half, Hartford would continue to maintain control of the match, however in the 47th minute Natalie Frazer was able to beat her defender and then some, and slotting the ball in the back corner, bringing the Corsairs within one 2-1. Hartford would continue to let shots fly, but struggled to maintain possession as easily as they had in the first half. Off a counter attack, the Corsairs were able to draw a penalty kick, and Ashlyn Aguiar scored to even the score. The Hawks found ample opportunities to regain the lead, but none to an avail. UMass Dartmouth, would get an opportunity with time expiring, but would not be able to get the shot off in time, as the match would end in a draw 2-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Hawks outshot the Corsairs 26-6 in 90 minutes of play with 14 shots on goal for the Hawks and 4 for UMass Dartmouth.
- Hartford was awarded four more corner kicks than the Corsairs (6-2).
- Both teams played physical but clean with only five total fouls, (2-UMD, 3-HAR) and no cards from either team.
