Hartford Women's Tennis Defeats University of Saint Joseph 4-3

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's tennis team battled its way to a thrilling 4-3 victory over Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday, October 7th, earning its second win of the season and continuing to show significant growth from last year's meeting between the two programs.

Rapid Recap
  • The Hawks entered the match looking to avenge a 7-0 loss to Saint Joseph (Conn.) on September 16, 2025, and delivered a completely different result this time around. After dropping two of three doubles contests, the Hawks responded with four victories in singles play to complete the comeback and secure the 5-4 team victory. The match opened with a competitive doubles round, with the Blue Jays taking two of the three contests to claim an early advantage. The Blue Jays' Nina Gardella and Jillian Milo defeated graduate student Lia Gosselin (South Bend, Ind.) and junior Victalia Z. Deida (New Haven, Conn.), 6-1. The Hawks answered in their second match of doubles, where sophomore Maddie Pearlman (New Hampton, N.Y.) and freshman Isabelle Simino (Franklin, Mass.)n delivered a strong 6-2 victory over Saint Joseph's Kate Landry and Carolina Mancini. Hartford's doubles lineup continued to battle, but the Blue Jays ultimately earned the point as Daynah Echevarria and Aubrey Nosal defeated graduate student Lora Acquario (East Nassau, N.Y.) and junior Jessica Marks (Hartford, Conn.), 6-4. With Saint Joseph taking two of the three doubles matches, the Hawks entered singles play needing a strong response.
  • Gosselin set the tone in singles play, turning in a dominant performance against Jillian Milo. Gosselin raced to a 6-1 opening-set victory before completing the straight-set win with another 6-1 decision, immediately putting the Hawks on the board. Pearlman continued the momentum with another commanding performance. Pearlman defeated Carolina Mancini, 6-1, 6-2, giving the Hawks their second singles point and bringing the team score closer. Simino then faced Gardella in a tightly contested opening set. After Gardella fought to a 6-6 score, Simino prevailed in the first-set tiebreak before closing out the match in the second set, 7-6, 6-4. The victory gave Hartford another crucial point and put the Hawks within one team point of victory. Deida responded quickly as she defeated Landry, 6-4, 6-1. With four singles victories and a complete turnaround from last season's 7-0 defeat, the Hawks closed out the day with a 5-4 victory over Saint Joseph (Conn.).
