Hartford Men's Lacrosse Rallies to Defeat Maritime College

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - The Hartford men's lacrosse team improved to 3-3 on the young season on Wednesday night defeating Maritime College by a 11-10 final. The Hawks trailed by a 7-4 margin at halftime, before outscoring the Privateers 7-3 in the second half.

Rapid Recap:

  • Maritime started fast getting two goals in the first five minutes to lead by the 2-0 score. Sophomore Ian Reynolds (Queensbury, N.Y.) helped Hartford get back into the game winning the face-off leading to a sophomore Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.) score assisted by junior Nick Forgione (Denville, N.J.). The Privateers would respond with a third goal in the first quarter to push the lead back to a pair. The Hawks would take four shots in the final five minutes, but they all missed the target as the home team took the 3-1 lead into the second.
  • The Privateers stayed on the gas scoring back-to-back strikes yet again to answer the second as the lead expanded to 5-1. Junior Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.) would respond with three-straight goals for Hartford as the visitors slowly tried to battle back. Maritime would get two final goals in the final three minutes to take a three goal lead into halftime.
  • Junior Colin Reilly (Southington, Conn.) started the second half scoring as the Hawks once again trailed by two. Novotony added a power-play strike to cut the deficit to 7-6. The Privateers scored 45 seconds later to keep the lead at a distance. Novotny would drive the Hawks to down just one again scoring with 39 seconds left in the third as Hartford was within one with 15 minutes to play.
  • Forgione would even the score just thirty seconds into the fourth as the Hawks were hungry for the win. Maritime would answer at the 11:25 mark, but less than a minute later sophomore Gavin Pelletier (Southington, Conn.) fired a rocket into the net to even the score again. The Privateers would once again jump in front with 5:21 to play, but again the Hawks responded as junior Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.) scored to level things again. Reynolds would win the face-off to give Hartford a chance for the lead. A penalty was drawn and just as the penalty was going to expire, Pelletier finished a goal from Wright to give the Hawks their first lead. Reynolds once again won the face-off as Hartford ran out the clock to win the game.
