Hartford Men’s Lacrosse Rolls Gordon College 19-6

WENHAM, Mass. - The Hawks hit the road to face Gordon College and walked away victorious to improve to 2-0 in conference play within the Conference of New England (CNE) with a 19-6 win.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Hawks jumped on the Fighting Scots early, taking control of the ball, field, and scoreboard courtesy of a goal by junior attack Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.) off of an assist from junior Tarin Prior (Hartford, Vt.). Hartford continued to sway the momentum in their favor over the rest of the first period by sending home 4 more goals to take a commanding 5-0 lead. The Hawks spread the wealth as well, with 5 different members of the squad netting the 5 goals. 
  • The domination from Hartford continued into the second, as Novotny was able to net his second goal of the game just two minutes after the first faceoff of the period. Sophomore Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.) also netted his second goal of the contest in the period off an assist from fellow sophomore Gavin Pelletier (Southington, Conn.).The defense also held strong for the Hawks, not allowing a single goal in the period, all while picking up 15 ground balls opposed to five from the Fighting Scots.
  • Coming out of the half with the score 10-0, Hartford kept the pedal down, as junior captain Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.) took control of the game, scoring two more goals in the period to bring his total to three for the contest. Junior midfielder Colin Reilly (Southington, Conn.) and Prior also picked up goals, with Reilly supplementing the score with a ground ball pick up as well. Gordon would find the back of the net before the close of the period but would enter the fourth with a tall task at hand as the score stood at 14-1 after the third quarter of play.
  • Despite a spirited effort of five goals from Gordon, the Hawks continued to build a lead and command the contest. On offense for Hartford, freshman Ryan Strait (New Milford, Conn.) was able to find the net twice in the frame with Pelletier, Reilly, and sophomore Andrew Willnus (Litchfield, N.H.) also picking up scores before the final horn. The Hawks would melt away the clock and finish off the dominant victory over the Fighting Scots by the score of 19-6.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Reilly led the offense for Hartford, collecting four scores on his nine shots. Ezra followed behind with three goals while also picking up two assists, tallying five points on the day. For the Scots, Jackson Wright led the way with three of the six goals for his squad in the contest.
  • On defense, Reilly also led the way with eight ground balls scooped up with freshman Cam Costanzo (Chester, Conn.) and senior Tobias Ballester (Westwood, N.J.) following with four apiece.
  • Hartford dominated the shot battle, outshooting Gordon College 53-16 with 42 on goal compared to the Fighting Scots 11.

Up Next:
The Hawks will return to Al-Marzook Field for their next matchup as they continue CNE play by facing off against Nichols College on Wednesday, April 1st. The first whistle is slated for 4:00 PM.
