WEST HARTFORD, CONN. - The Hartford baseball team hosted the Suffolk university Rams on Saturday for a Conference of New England (CNE) double header matchup. The Hawks would take both games in blowout fashion wining game one 11-3 and game two 21-2.
Game 1:

- Hartford would get off to an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning, with the first two coming by way of a two run homer from junior Alex Popovich (Dudley, Mass.). Senior Cameron Boardman (Daegu, South Korea) would secure an RBI triple that would add another run to the tally. The Hawks would end the inning with a 4-0 lead as Boardman would be brought in by way of an RBI double from senior Jeremy Mangiameli (Middlefield, Conn.)
- In the fourth inning the Hawks would add to their lead with RBIs coming from graduate student Ryan Knight (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore Nico Digioa (Hamden, Conn.) making it a 6-2 ball game through four innings.
- Mangiamelli would bring in two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, with an RBI single, advancing on the throw, and later in the inning junior Tyler Shannon (Madison, N.J.) would hit a sacrifice fly to bring in another run making the score 9-3 through five innings.
- The Hawks would add a few more insurance runs in the sixth inning, as senior Jackson Ciccone (Danbury, Conn.) would bring in a run with an RBI triple, and senior John Russell (Eastchester, N.Y.) would bring in another by way of a sacrifice fly. This is where the scoring would end for both teams as the final score would be 11-3 in favor of the Hawks.
At the Plate:
- Mangiameli would end the game going 3-4 at the dish, with three RBI and one extra base hit. Popovich would earn a 2-5 day at the plate with 2RBI coming by way of the long ball, as well as a double. Ciccone would finish the first game 2-5 as well with a triple, one RBI, and a stolen base.
- The Hawks would only be struck out four times in game one.
- Hartford would notch five extra base hits in game one.
On the Mound:
- Junior Anthony Bubba (Jefferson, N.J.) would get the nod on the bump in game one, seeing 6.1 innings of action, giving up three runs on seven hits, with four strikeouts in 27 batters faced. Junior Julian Rondon (West Nyack, N.Y.) would come in for relief and go 3.0 innings giving up on runs on no hits with five strikeouts in 10 batters faced to earn the save for Hartford.
- Both pitchers would combine for nine strikeouts and seven hits.
Game 2:

- The Hawks would explode in the first inning scoring putting up 12 runs with Ciccone earning multiple RBIs, including an RBI triple. Junior Zayn Godbee (Hartford, Conn.) would also knock in a pair of runs with an RBI double into left field, they would lead through one inning 12-0.
- The Hawks would add to their lead in the second and third innings, as senior Patrick Joseph (Pomona, N.Y.) would bring in a run via a sacrifice fly. In the third inning, Mangiameli would bring in a run via an RBI double, and in a few plays would score himself from a throwing error on part of Suffolk, leading to a 16-0 score through three innings.
- In the fourth inning Ciccone would notch yet another RBI with an RBI double into left center, Mangiameli would also knock in a run with an RBI single, and Knight would bring in Mangiameli for a 19-0 score through four.
- In the fifth sophomore Evin Curtiss (Simsbury, Conn.) would homer to right field for his first hit of the season, and first collegiate home run.
- The Hawks scoring would halt in the fifth inning, as junior Peyton West (South Windsor, Conn.) would reach on an error and bring in the final Hartford run of the day. Suffolk would bring in two runs in the top frame of the sixth inning, but it would not be enough to shrink the deficit as the Hawks came out on top 21-2.
At the Plate:
- Ciccone would end game two going 3-4 at the dish with two RBI and all three hits being extra base hits. Z. Godbee would end the day with a 3-4 line at the plate and two RBI. Knight would end game two going 2-2 at the plate with two RBI.
- The Hawks would end with 21 hits, with eight extra base hits.
- Hartford would again end game two with only four strikeouts.
On the Mound:
- Senior Joe Dooley (West Hartford, Conn.) would get the start for the Hawks going five innings, with no runs on three hits, four strikeouts, and no walks in 21 batters faced. Freshman Mike DeRosa (Wolcott, Conn.) would come in for reliefe throwing one inning, and giving up two runs on one hit, and a strikeout in five batters faced. Sophomrore Jeffrey Blake (Hopewell, N.J.) would close out the final frame, pitching one inning, giving up no runs on no hits in three batters faced.
- The Hawks would give up a combined four hits, and five strikeouts, and one walk.
Post Game Press:
When asked on the point of emphasis this afternoon Ciccone said "Stacking on the runs early, not letting them hang with us, and just keeping the ball on a line, windy day like this you got to keep it low... It's just not being satisfied, after the first game we can celebrate, and be happy, but it's all about winning both and getting that sweep."

The Hawks will travel to Providence, R.I. to take on CNE opponent Johnson and Waled University for a midweek match up on Tuesday April 14th, with first pitch slated for 3:30PM.
