Hartford Men's Lacrosse Powers Past RWU to 15-4 Victory

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -The University of Hartford men's lacrosse team defeated Roger Williams University this Tuesday evening with a final score of 15-4 to claim a dominating home win.

Rapid Recap:

  • Hartford opened the game with strong, energy, winning the faceoff as sophomore Ian Reynolds (Queensbury, N.Y.) gave the offense an early advantage. After threatening chances and a pair of key saves from junior CJ Ledwick (Falmouth, Mass.), the Hawks broke through five minutes in as junior Colin Reilly (Southington, Conn.) finished a smooth set up from sophomore Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.). Reilly stayed hot midway through the quarter, hitting the post before collecting his own rebounds and burying his second to make it 2-0. Hartford maintained the momentum as junior Maxton McPhee (Dudley, Mass.) finished off another Wright assist to cap a three-goal run. RWU answered with a pair of goals, but junior Trent Beggs had the last say in the opening quarter finishing with 90 seconds remaining to head into the second up 4-2.
  • The second quarter turned into a defensive grind, with both teams trading empty possessions while Ledwick came up with several key saves to keep RWU off the board. Hartford found its breakthrough mid-way through the frame as junior Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.) capitalized in transition off a feed from Reilly. The Hawks added another late in the half as junior Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.) finished a set up from senior Aidan Kemp (South Orange, N.J.), extending the lead to 6-2 moving into halftime.
  • Hartford took full control in the third, using a balanced attack and strong defensive play to pull away. After successfully fending off multiple penalties and getting another steady stretch from Ledwick in net, Reilly opening the scoring to extend the lead to a comfy five-point differential. The Hawks continued to surge offensively with Ezra finishing one of his own before Kemp added back-to-back goals, including a late strike in the final seconds of the quarter. Despite a brief RWU response, Hartford dominated the stretch, taking a 10-3 lead into the fourth.
  • The Hartford Hawks continued to pout it on in the fourth. The Hawks struck first in the frame as Wright found the back of the net, sparking yet another offensive push. Hartford kept its foot on the gas with goals from sophomore Gavin Pelletier (Southington, Conn.) and Reilly, while Ezra and sophomore Nick Ugolini (Agawam, Mass.) added late finishes to cap the scoring run. Dispute a man-down goal from RWU, the Hawks dominated the final quarter, pulling away for a decisive 15-4 advantage.
Inside The Numbers:
  • Reilly led for Hartford with four goals and two assists for six points on the night. Reilly also picked up two ground balls and forced one turnover in the win. Ezra came in just behind with his hat-trick along with one assist. Wright showcased his all-around team impact with three assist and one goal while picking up two ground balls.
  • Reynolds, Conference of New England (CNE) specialist of the week, named for the third time this season continues to show his strength in the face-off, going 10-16 on the day collecting six ground balls.
  • Ledwick put up 10 saves tonight in net to earn the win just allowing four goals in all 60 minutes of action.
