ENDICOTT, Mass- The Hartford women's lacrosse team fell short 17-6 this afternoon in a road game to Endicott College. The Hawks are now 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the Conference of New England (CNE).
Rapid Recap:
- The Gulls jumped out to an early start over Hartford. Endicott scored two consecutive unanswered goals to kick off the match. The Hawks were able to answer midway through the quarter as senior Courtney Ingham (Bedford, N.H.) scored off a sophomore Kate Zonin (North Smithfield, R.I.) assist. But, a late man-down goal gave Endicott a 3-1 advantage moving into the second quarter.
- Endicott extended its lead with three more goals in the second, the Hawks were pressured hard and unable to complete clears and maintain possession. The Gulls were able to mount a 6-1 advantage. Hartford had chances on multiple free position attempts and finally broke through late as Zonin converted to cut the deficit to 6-2 heading into half.
- Endicott pulled away in the third, scoring six unanswered goals after an early exchange to extend its lead. Hartford's lone goal came from Zonin off of a junior Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.), but Endicott's offensive surge pushed the margin 13-3 moving into the final quarter.
- Hartford used their break to recollect and opened this final quarter with a brief surge, matching the Gulls' energy with three straight goals. Goals were tallied from Zonin and junior Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) to cut into the deficit. Endicott responded with a late run, adding four goals to pull away adn secure the 17-6 final.
Inside the Numbers:
- Zonin led the Hawks with four of the six total goals this afternoon, along with one assist for five points. She went 2-3 for the free-position shots as well.Â
- Samela held strong in the draw controls winning seven and also going 1-1 in free position shots to earn her one goal in this match up.
- Junior Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) put up seven saves in this game playing 55 minutes before junior Emily Campbell (Plainville, Mass.) stepped in for relief for the final five minutes for one save.
