BEVERLY, Mass. - The Hartford men's lacrosse team had its second Conference of New England (CNE) loss of the season on Saturday falling to Endicott College by a 19-7 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Gulls jumped ahead 2-0 after the first five minutes of action. Hartford would get on the board with 9:24 left in the first quarter as junior Nick Forgione (Denville, N.J.) would get his 14th of the season. Junior Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.) would even the score just a couple of minutes later as the game was 2-2 at the end of the first quarter.
- Endicott really took advantage in the second scoring all seven goals of the 15 minute period to take a 9-2 lead at the break.
- After the 10th goal for the home team started out the second half, sophomore Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.) would score to try and spark a comeback. The Gulls would continue to pour it on scoring the next three goals to push the lead to 13-3. Junior Colin Reilly (Southington, Conn.) would get a goal from Wright, followed by another for junior Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.) as the Hawks trailed by eight with 15 minutes to play.
- Endicott would score four of the next five goals with Ezra getting a second, but the home team was well ahead. Novotny would get a late goal but the Gulls would race off to the 19-7 win.
Inside The Numbers:
- Ezra and Novotny both scored twice a piece to led the offense as Wright added a goal and an assist in the loss.
- Graduate student Nick DiDomizio (Cheshire, Conn.) led the defense causing two turnovers to go with three grounders. Novotny also would cause a pair in the defeat.
- Sophomore CJ Ledwick (Falmouth, Mass.) stopped 12 shots in the loss.
- The Gulls won the face-off battle 16-13 while also going 1-2 on extra man opportunity. Hartford struggled on the power play going 0-6 in the loss.
