Hawks Baseball Drop Annual Dunkin' Park Game to Western Connecticut State

HARTFORD, CT - The Hawks took on the Wolves of Western Connecticut State University in front of a packed house at Dunkin' Park in downtown Hartford, Connecticut, and would drop the contest by the score of 7-6.

Rapid Recap:

  • WestConn would get off to an early start, bringing across one run in the first by way of a RBI double off of Hawks starter, sophomore Jeffrey Blake (Hopewell, N.J.). The Wolves would keep the pressure on into the fourth inning, putting up a crooked 6 spot on 5 hits against the Hartford bullpen. Two Hawks errors would also allow for the inning to swell, leaving Hartford to stare at a 7-0 score after four innings of play.
  • Entering into the second half of the match up, the Hawks' offense started to spark, pushing across their first run in the bottom of the fifth off of a RBI base on balls from senior Jeremy Mangiameli (Middlefield, Conn.). The Wolves were able to escape the bases-loaded jam relatively unscathed; however, as the Hawks would ground into an inning-ending double play.
  • Hartford continued to climb out of their hole in the bottom of the sixth with three straight of knocks to send home two more runs. Sophomore Sean Newman (Morris Plains, N.J.) started the rally with a double, which would be followed by another double off the bat of junior Zaynn Godbee (Hartford, Conn.) to plate Newman. Sophomore Evin Curtiss (Simsbury, Conn.) kept the rally alive with a single to plate Godbee, making the score 7-3.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, the Hawks again had something brewing, as the same part of the order got the party started. Then, senior Patrick Joseph (Pomona, N.Y.) got his pitch and ripped a double into the right-center gap to plate two more runs for Hartford. Senior Jackson Ciccone (Danbury, Conn.) followed Josephs' double with a sacrifice fly to score Curtiss from third. Wolves' pitching would step up to end the inning and post a clean ninth to close out the Hawks by the score of 7-6.

  • The Hawks featured five different pitchers in the contest, with Blake getting the start. After Blake posted 2.0 IP allowing 2 runs on 2 hits, sophomore Evan Gentile (Berlin, Conn.) came in to pitch the next 2. After Gentile, junior Joseph Ferruci logged 2.0 IP, allowing 0 runs on 3 hits.
