Hartford Baseball Shuts Out Wentworth 1-0

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford baseball team picked up Conference of New England (CNE) win number five on Tuesday defeating Wentworth Institute of Technology by a 1-0 final. 

Rapid Recap:

  • Sophomore Justin Gouin (North Haven, Conn.) got the start for the Hawks keeping the Leopards at bay in the first five innings keeping Wentworth scoreless only allowing four hits. The Hawks would have multiple chances in the early going to get on the board but after the first fiving innings the game stayed scoreless as Alec Peruzzi was dealing for the visitors. 
  • Sophomore Michael Greco (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) came in relief in the sixth and set down nine Leopards only allowing one base runner overall. In the bottom of the eighth the Hawks would get on the board as senior Cameron Boardman (Daegu, South Korea) singled home sophomore Nico DiGioia (Hamden, Conn.) who reached via a wild pitch. 
  • Senior Michael Featherstone (Ramsey, N.J.) closed the door going 1-2-3 in the ninth to clinch the fourth-straight Hawks win. 

On the Mound:

  • Gouin had his best start of the year going to five innings with just four hits allowed. Greco improved to 2-0 on the year with the win getting two punch outs over his three innings. Featherstone collected his third save of the season with the top of the ninth being set down quickly. 

At the Plate:

  • Senior Patrick Joseph (Pomona, N.Y.) was the only Hawk with two hits going 2-for-2 in the game. DiGioia notched the only extra base hit in the game with a first inning double. Boardman had the lone RBI in the win.  
Post Game Press:
"Yesterday we had a big win at Stevens and I really think the weekend was big for us", said senior Michael Featherstone (Ramsey, N.J.). "We kind of flipped the script and coming into today, guys were a little beat up after the long day yesterday so it felt great to help the staff close things out today. It was a good win and I hope we can keep this rolling."

Up Next:
The Hawks will continue the home stand on Saturday hosting Suffolk University with a 12:00 PM doubleheader start.
