WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's lacrosse team bounced back on Wednesday afternoon defeating Nichols College by a 19-9 final. The Hawks improved to 4-2 in Conference of New England (CNE) play and now are the fourth seed in the standings.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks jumped ahead 2-0 after goals from junior Katie Graham (Colchester, Conn.) and sophomore Kate Zonin (North Smithfield, R.I.). The Bison would get a goal back, but after a junior Mandi Rivard (Vernon, Conn.) save, senior Sara Costa (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) scored a power-play goal from Zonin. Junior Lauren Samela (Cheshire, Conn.) would add a free position strike next with 1:19 to play. Nichols would add a late goal, as the Hawks took a two-goal advantage into the second.
- Another power-play goal from Costa started the second quarter. Kaylyn Bourque would get a goal back for the visitors, but Zonin would score the next three in the game as Hartford cruised to a 8-3 lead. Nichols answered in the remaining 4:25 of the first half scoring three-straight to get the game within 8-6 into the break.
- Junior Laurel McIntosh (West Kingston, R.I.) kicked off a dominant Hawk quarter with a goal to get the home team lead to 9-6. Hartford would rattle off all six goals in the quarter as Samela would score a pair, Zonin would score one, McIntosh with two and Graham with one as the Hawks pushed the lead to 14-6.
- The Bison would score the first goal in the fourth, but the Hawks stayed on the attack getting two more goals with one for junior Talei Ricketson (Centennial, Colo.) and another for Zonin. Cali Melo would score the next two for Nichols, but Hartford responded with the final three goals in the game to win 19-9.

Inside The Numbers:
- Zonin led the Hawks again with eight total points on six goals and a pair of assists. McIntosh followed with three goals and an assist. Costa, Samela and Ricketson all tallied three points, while Graham had two goals. Freshman Madeline Aiello (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and sophomore Brenna Slattery (Wilbraham, Mass.) added the remaining two goals.
- Samela dominated the draw control again with 16 in the game.
- Rivard stopped 10 shots in 52:37 improving to 6-5 on the season.

The Hawks will travel to Biddeford, Maine to take on the University of New England on Saturday with a 12:00 PM start.
