WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Conference of New England (CNE) play defeating the University of New England by a 2-1 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks opened out attacking getting three shots in the 16 minutes with an attempt by senior Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) comfortably saved by Haley Coombs in the 16th minute. Brush would get another huge chance in the 25th minute but Coombs got over in time to punch it away. The first real chance for the Nor'easters came in the 42nd minute as Lily Carreiro had an attempt drawing a save from freshman Madelyn Nunnemacher (Sutton, Mass.). Hartford would go on the counter getting the goal in the 43rd minute as sophomore Anastasia Nerney (Glocester, R.I.) drove the whole pitch before dropping a dime to junior Sara Rieger (Waxhaw, N.C.) who finished her third goal of the season. Hartford would take the 1-0 advantage into the break.
- UNE would start the second half strong getting two chances in the opening 15 minutes drawing a pair of saves from Nunnemacher. The Nor'easters would get the goal in the 62nd minute as Nunnemacher was bumped causing the ball to come out and found the foot of Ailey Mann for the strike. Hartford would try to strike right away with a great chance for junior Angela Chávez (Glastonbury, Conn.) but Coombs made a save. Just seconds later the Hawks would get in front as the Nor'easter lost possession finding the foot of sophomore Kaylee Benson (Higganum, Conn.) who lifted a shot from 23 yards out to find the top corner for the lead. UNE would continue to try and find the equalizer with a pair of chances in the next 10 minutes, but Nunnemacher denied the chances. The Nor'easters would get a penalty opportunity in the 75th minute but Gillian McGee would be denied by Nunnemacher as the Hawks maintained the lead. There was not another clear chance for either team as the Hawks held on for the 2-1 win.

Inside the Numbers:
- Rieger picked up her third goal of the season for the Hawks, while Benson notched her first goal of her collegiate career in the win.
- Nunnemacher is now 4-0-0 making six saves while allowing one goal.
- Mann picked up her second goal of the year for the Nor'easters in the loss.
- Coombs would make four saves in the loss in net.
- Hartford and UNE would match each other with 13 shots, while the visitors held a slight 7-6 on target shooting margin.
