Hartford Men's Soccer Earns Shutout Victory Over Albertus Magnus College

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford men's soccer team picked up a decisive home win on Wednesday night defeating Albertus Magnus College by a 2-0 final. 

Rapid Recap:

  • The Hawks would get an opening chance in the 19th minute as sophomore Eddie Hageman (Colchester, Conn.) found freshman Jovan Lopez-Gutierrez (Meriden, Conn.) who hit the post on the shot. The Falcons would get their first opportunity in the 29th minute but Lorenzo Lauria was well high. Hartford would get on the scoreboard first as freshman Cole Jones (Plainville, Conn.) fired a rocket by the diving keeper on an assist by junior Kyle Theobald (Sandyston, N.J.). Albertus would get one final chance in the 43rd minute as Andres Mendez-Suarez hit the woodwork on a corner, but the damage was cleared and the Hawks held the 1-0 lead into half. 
  • The Falcons would get the first chance of note in the second half as Donaldo Yanez had a chance saved by freshman Aiden Chrabascz (Longmeadow, Mass.). The Hawks would double the lead in the 68th minute as Hageman battled a center back to win the ball before depositing it in the corner. Both teams would have opportunities in the later portion with Chrabascz making an incredible save in the 89th minute as the Hawks held the clean sheet en route to the win. 
Post Game Press:
"I feel so good right now", said freshman Cole Jones (Plainville, Conn.). "To get two bangers in a row, it just feels amazing. We are such an amazing group. For Justin it was just such an amazing game for him and glad he could get the win."

Inside the Numbers:

  • Jones and Hageman both tallied their second-straight game with a goal. 
  • Theobald picked up his first point of the 2026 season with the assist.
  • Senior Justin Matrose (Troy, N.Y.) got the start in net for the Hawks picking up his first collegiate win with 45 minutes. Chrabascz would make four saves to finish off the clean sheet. 
  •  Patrick Cavalieri made two saves in the loss for the Falcons. 
  • Albertus Magnus out shot Hartford by a 11-10 margin while both teams got four shots on target.
