Volleyball Closes Out 2009 with Three Set Losses to Binghamton and Albany in Final Weekend

  - The University of Hartford volleyball team closed out its 2009 season with back-to-back matches at Binghamton (L, 0-3) and at Albany (L, 0-3). Hartford closes out the year with a 7-10 overall record and an 0-10 mark in conference play.

The Bearcats (13-15, 5-5 AE) scored the weekend's first win over Hartford with scores of 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 on Friday night. Senior Hallie Fullagar led the Hawks in her second to last career match with 12 kills, only the second time this season she has put up double digit kills.

 

She also finished the match hitting 40.7 percent with only one error in 27 total attacks. Sophomore Michelle Cordell led the team in hitting with seven kills and only one error in 23 total attacks. Also finishing with seven kills for the Hawks was senior Maddison Molyneux.

As a team, Hartford hit .133 for the match with 37 kills and 23 errors in 105 total attacks. Binghamton finished the match with a .375 team hitting percentage with only nine errors in the match to go along with 42 kills in 88 total swings. Michelle McDonough led all players in the match with 14 kills.

In the season finale against Albany (20-8, 10-0 AE) on Saturday afternoon, the Great Danes completed a season conference sweep of the Hawks, while also finishing off an undefeated season in conference for the second-straight season. Albany scored its three-set win over Hartford with scores of 25-12, 25-20, 25-18.

Against the Great Danes, Hartford was led by senior Erin Macro who finished with nine kills. Also hitting well for Hartford was fellow classmate Molyneux with four kills and one errors in 14 total attempts for a .214 hitting percentage, which led the team. All four seniors finished their final career match with at least one kills. Also leads the Hawks was Cordell who finished with five kills.

Junior setter Lindsay Ford finished the Albany match with 20 assists, to go along with 25 against Binghamton for a grand total of 45 in the final two matches of the season. Defensively, the Hawks were led by Danielle Etta in both matches as she closed out the season with 10 digs against both teams.

Against Albany, Hartford finished the match hitting .047 with 28 kills and 23 errors in 107 total attacks. The Great Danes were led by Teresa Coppiellie who finished with just one error in 18 total swings, connecting on 12 of them for a. 611 attach percentage. As a team, Albany finished with a .353 hitting percentage with 40 kills and 10 errors in 85 total attacks.
