Hanover, NH - Despite outhitting the Big Green 13-9, the Hartford baseball team dropped its fifth straight game, 13-5 at Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks fall to 10-25 overall with the loss. Hartford was led by sophomore Victor Santana who finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Santana was one of three Hartford players to hit home runs in the game with Matt Walker and Jason Freethey joining him in that category. Also hitting well for Hartford was Andy Drexel who finished 2-for-5 with one run scored. Eight other players finished with eight hits for Hartford.
On the mound, Matt Govoni suffered the loss for Hartford. He is now 1-3 overall. Govoni started and pitched the first 3.2 innings allowing eight earned runs on four hits with seven walks and four strikeouts. Three other pitchers saw time for Hartford, Myles Kelly pitched 1.1 innings, Mike Thatcher pitched two innings and Weston Szymanski closed out the game, pitching the ninth inning.
Kelley finished the game allowing four earned runs on four hits with two walks and a strike out. Through his two innings of work, Thatcher did not allow a hit, facing seven total batters. He gave up two walks, while also striking out two batters. Szymanski finished the final inning allowing one earned run on one hits with no walks or strikeouts.
The Hartford baseball team returns to action with a four-game series at Vermont this weekend. The Hawks and Catamounts will begin the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
