WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -
The Hartford men's and women's tennis teams dropped matches at Hofstra and NJIT over the weekend, although there were positives for head coach Michael Raymond's teams. The top of the men's lineup performed well, with Josh Isaacson stretching a personal winning streak to three straight with a win at Number Two singles against Hofstra. On the women's side, freshman Emily Wilhoft pulled out a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory at Number Six singles against NJIT on Saturday.

The men's team was defeated 4-2 at Hofstra on Friday. Due to weather and time concerns, the teams agreed to play singles matches prior to doubles, reversing the traditional order. The Pride took four of the six singles matches, clinching the overall victory. With weather worsening and light short, the teams agreed not to play the doubles point.

Although the Hawks fell, sophomore Aneil Bhalla and freshman Josh Isaacson claimed singles victories at Number One and Number Two, respectively. Bhalla took his first set 6-3 before falling in the second, 2-6. He rebounded in the third set, though, slamming home a 6-2 victory to seal the point.

Isaacson, who had defeated his opponents at Number Two singles against Wagner and Holy Cross in the team's previous two matches, made it three in a row when he locked up a strong 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hofstra's Pedro Gimenez.

Marco Neves put up a strong battle at Number Three, although he ultimately fell, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Josh Levinson. Eric Floum also fought hard before dropping his match at Number Four, 6-3, 7-6 (6-3).

The highlight of the weekend for Hartford's women's team came on Saturday against NJIT when freshman Emily Wilhoft claimed her first singles victory of the spring - and second of her collegiate career - by winning 6-1, 6-2 at Number Six singles. Wilhoft shut down NJIT's Katie DeRosa en route to her victory.

The Hawks are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Bryant to take on the Bulldogs. The matches are set to get underway at 2 p.m.
