WORCESTER, Mass. - After taking their first victories of the spring on Tuesday against Wagner, the Hartford men's and women's tennis teams could not make it two in a row as they fell at Holy Cross. The women dropped their match 6-1, while the men were edged by the Crusaders, 4-3.
On the women's side, it was a good day for Livia Blasque, who won at Number One singles, 7-5, 6-1. Along with Margaret Sabatino, she also won her doubles match, defeating Kristen Meahl and Kathryn Wilkie, 8-5.
That was all the Hawks could muster, though, as they could not claim even another set. Playing at Number Five singles, Kaitlin Lennon battled to the end of her match with Ivette Konopka, but fell 6-4, 6-4.
For the men, the back-and-forth match went down to the wire before the Crusaders' Scot Brownell knocked out Aaron Kooden at Number Six singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 to wrap up the 4-3 team decision.
Hartford snared the doubles point to get the match started on the right foot. Aneil Bhalla and Marco Neves took the Number One doubles match, 8-3. Josh Isaacson and Eric Floum took the Number Two doubles match to earn Hartford the point, 8-3.
Isaacson and Neves translated their success into singles play. Isaacson played in the second slot, winning 6-3, 6-3. Meanwhile, Neves won at Number Three, 6-1, 7-5.
Hartford will be back in action on Friday. The Hawks will visit Hofstra, with their matches set to get underway at 3 p.m.
