Volleyball Falls Twice on Saturday: Nethersole Named to All-Tournament Team

– The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its final two matches of the La Salle Invitational, the first in three sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) to Valparaiso and the night cap in four sets (25-9, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22) to the host Explorers. The Hawks fall to 0-3 on the season with today's two losses.

Sophomore Kami Nethersole led the Hawks in both matches, finishing with nine kills in the first match and 10 kills in the second match. Nethersole has now compiled double digit kills in two of the three matches this season. The outside hitter finished with a .333 hitting percentage in the first match with just two errors in21 total attacks, while she finished with eight hitting errors against La Salle in 33 total attacks for a.061 hitting percentage.

Hartford's lone senior Lindsay Ford captained the Hawks offense through both matches, finishing with 19 assists in the days first match and recording 29 against the host team. Defensively, the Hawks were led by junior Danielle Etta who finished with double digit digs in both matches, 13 against Valparaiso and 12 against La Salle.

Also hitting well in the first match was rookie Dionna Kirton who finished with seven kills, while committing just three hitting errors in a total of 21 attacks. She finished the match with a .190 hitting percentage. As a team, the Hawks finished the opening match of the day with 28 kills and 19 errors in 101 total attacks for a .089 hitting percentage. Joining Etta in leading the team defensively against Valparaiso was Michelle Cordell who finished with seven digs.

In the night cap, Cordell added seven kills to the Hawks hitting, while Ford added six from the setters position. As a team, Hartford hit .075 in the second match with 40 kills and 30 errors in 134 total attacks. Ford also added double figure digs to her six kills and 29 assists, finishing the match with 10 digs, while also adding a pair of service aces.

Defensively, three total players finished with double digit digs. Joining Etta and Ford was Cordell who compiled 10 digs in the late match.

The Hawks will play a single mid-week in the coming week when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for a date with the Marist Red Foxes. Hartford and Marist will tangle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday night. That match will be the Hawks only tune-up before heading back to tournament play at the UConn Toyota Classic in Storrs on Friday and Saturday, September 3 and 4.
