WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -
The Hartford tennis teams wrapped up their weekend homestand on Sunday with losses at the hands of the Hofstra Pride. The men fell 6-1, while the women dropped a 7-0 decision.

"It was a tough weekend for us after gaining some momentum against St. Francis last week," head coach Michael Raymond remarked after the defeats. "We'll shake this off though, and we are looking forawrd to our next round of matches beginning Tuesday with Holy Cross."

On the men's side, the Hawks engaged in three tense matches in doubles, but all three went the way of the Pride. Aneil Bhalla and Josh Isaacson took their match to a tiebreak before falling, 9-8 (7-4). At No. 2 doubles, Marco Neves and Bogdan Nedelcu fell by a 9-7 count, while Edgardo Ureta and Eric Floum fell 8-6 at No. doubles.

"We need to start closing out the doubles points to give us an edge heading into singles," Raymond commented.

Singles matches were also closely contested, with Neves earning the Hawks' point with his 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Playing at the top of the Hawks' ladder, Bhalla dropped a 6-3, 6-4 decision. His doubles partner, Josh Isaacson, put up a strong fight at No. 3 singles before also falling, 6-4, 7-5.

Nedelcu dropped a 6-2, 6-1 match at No. 4 singles, while Joel de los Santos fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5. Ureta finished the ladder off with a 6-1, 6-2 loss at No. 6.

On the women's side, Katina Zampas and Maggie Sabatino had the most impressive performance for the Hawks at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-5. Teams of Kaitlin Lennon and Haley Gileau at No. 2 and Nicole Haynal and Emily Willhoft at No. 3 each dropped 8-2 decisions as the Pride picked up the doubles point.

"Maggie and Katina looked very solid at No. 1 doubles today," Raymond said. "They are really starting to gel as a team."

Sabatino's 6-2, 6-2 loss at No. 2 singles would prove to be the best individual performance on the women's side on Sunday. Lennon fell at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0, and Zampas was defeated at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Playing at No. 5 on the ladder, Gileau fell 6-1, 6-0, while Haynal and Willhoft dropped their singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 counts.
